This 0-4-0T (tank) locomotive was built for stock by Alco’s Cooke Locomotive Works in Paterson, NJ, in 1918. That year, it was bought by the cotton manufacturer, J. M. Odell Manufacturing Company in Bynham, NC. At some point, it was sold to Groveton Paper in Groveton, NH.

Weighing 79,000 lbs with 38” drivers and 14” x 22” cylinders, #5 operated at a boiler pressure of 180 psi delivering 17,360 lbs tractive effort.

It was officially donated to the City of Groveton when the mill closed in 2008 and is on display off Main St next to the Groveton covered bridge over the Upper Ammonoosac River.
