Built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, OH, in 1922, 3-truck wood burning Shay #11 was purchased new by the Rosa Lumber Co., Picayune, MS, at a cost of $18,805. It weighs 113,800 lbs with 32” drivers and three 11” x 12” cylinders. Operating at a boiler pressure of 200 psi, it delivered 25,830 lbs tractive effort. The bunker held 2 cords of wood and 2,000 gallons of water.
On July 1, 1921 L. O. Crosby and Lamont Rowlands bought the Rosa Lumber Co., holdings for approximately $1,500,000 and changed the name to the C. & R. Lumber Company. The purchase included 48,000 acres of timber in Greene and Wayne counties. The mill at Blodgett had a cutting capacity of 80,000 feet per day, but the mill had a short life ceasing operation at the end of 1928 and, the following year, #11 was sold to the Virgin Pine Lumber Co., in Piave, MS.
In 1937, the locomotive was sold to the Crosby Lumber & Manufacturing Co., in Crosby, MS, and was retired in 1958. It was donated to the City of Natchez, MS, and went on display in Duncan Park in 1965.
