This 0-4-0ST (Saddle Tank) locomotive was built in 1924 by the Davenport Locomotive Works in Davenport, IA, for the Costello Brothers in Knoxville, TN. It was sold to the Great Western Sugar Co., in 1930 to work at the company’s Lyman, NE, processing plant.

The engine weighs 42,000 lbs and has 29” drivers and 11” x 16” cylinders. Operating at a boiler pressure of 140 psi, it delivered 7,944 lbs tractive effort.

In 1963, the engine was donated to the City of Bayard, NE, and is on display in an open area near the intersection of Main St & 11th St W.
